How I Re-Designed an Old and Shabby Kitchen?

If somebody asks me what I love in my house? My answer would be - My KITCHEN!!

When we were choosing a new nest to live-in, all other areas were handled by my family, the only place I kept for myself, was my beloved kitchen. The whole kitchen interior was hand-picked by me especially, considering the aesthetic appeal of the house.

The taste of the people living in our house previously, was definitely not matching with my contemporary choices. The kitchen in the house was way too old style, with the same wall-facing countertop.

In this blog, I will be sharing some changes that I made in that shabby looking place in order to make it more Functional and Organized. 

Functional changes

Out of all, the aspect irritating me the most was that century-old, wall facing countertop. So, I opted for Countertop Refacing and decide to place it in the middle of the kitchen making it centre point for all the attention with a glossy finish. Along with refacing the kitchen countertop, I chose colours and tone in such a way that can match up with my overall decorum.  

With such a small kitchen space, the thing with which I was struggling the most, was the storage. So, after researching for various Kitchen cabinet remodel ideas, I decided to go for vertical storage, and trust me, if you opt for it you can certainly save a lot of space in your beloved area.

Some Additional changes

Subsequent to above changes, in terms of direction and storage my next target was adding functionality. With the already available resources and by attaching something new I wanted to create something more useful and catchy.

As the kitchen floor was also very shabby, but changing the whole marble, required a lot of equity. So, rather I chose to renovate the old floor and found a service provider for Floor Refinishing only. Now my old floor was just like a new one and that too by saving a lot. 

There were also many spills and spoils on the walls of the kitchen, rather than cleaning those I decided to apply Glossy Splashbacks on kitchen backs. These splashbacks provided my kitchen with a whole glossy look along with safeguarding the walls from further mutilation at the same time.

Other Minor details

The main aspect we tend to forget while refinishing the kitchen is - Lighting. If you choose to have colourful lighting you need to be very careful while choosing the colours of the light matching with the splashbacks and countertops, as other things are colourful too.

I opted for dim lighting in the back with high power lighting in the centre. Having those different colour lightings at different places according to the requirement and importance, you don’t need to glow whole of your place like a light bulb. Rather, in specific areas lightings of different colours should be applied while Kitchen cabinet remodelling.

Conclusion

So, these were various changes made by me, you can add something else as per your preference, convenience and budget. Each house tells a  different story attached to its different kitchen!! While deciding colours and countertop material you need to be precise about the quality of the material used and services provided.
